THE MANY GIFTS OF KANAN KAPILA

THE MANY GIFTS OF KANAN KAPILA

Interview and Photography: Joanna Feldheim   “As a little girl, I learned how to make Masala Chai by watching my father at our family restaurant.” Kanan Kapila knows how to make the most decadent Chai. And making Chai is just one of her many offerings. When I first met Kanan, images of generosity, authenticity and gratitude came to me. Watery and wise, Kanan is generous with her many beautiful and unforgettable gifts— whether you are being handed an insanely delicious no-sugar cookie, expanding your yoga practice or even delivering your baby. Everything she says and does is informed by her depth...

Feeling Nepal: Meet Jami Saunders

Interview by Joanna Feldheim/Edited by DeMane Davis/Photographs by Jami Saunders     “I think anyone that has been to Nepal can attest to the fact that this country is special in a way that is undeniable.”   In 2010, Jami Saunders spent two weeks volunteering at an orphanage in Kathmandu. The professional photographer made a life-changing trip. Every day of her two weeks there she found herself touched by the forty-nine children. She noted that their lack of access to quality education, in particular seemed to be most pressing. Upon arriving back in NYC, she and her partner Andrew Raible...

MEET AMANDA HARDING

FROM THINKING TO FEELING Amanda and I met at Prema Yoga, her studio in the heart of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Originally the parlor of an 1890's brownstone with architectural bones of classic Brooklyn, the studio feels both grand and intimate. A Walt Whitman quote, jotted on the entrance blackboard reads, "I am larger and better than I thought. I did not know I held so much goodness."  Having interviewed many yoga teachers,...

Evan Handler : feeling luckier and luckier every day.

co-written by Joanna Feldheim & DeMane Davis. photos by Mackenzie Stroh. Mackenzie Stroh "It's seemed like the older I've gotten, the more people have insisted I take my clothes off on camera."    I met Evan Handler the Summer of 1975 on a bike trip through New England. We were 14, rode 620 miles and innocently kissed in an orange tent. Things were so much slower in the 70's. Nicer. Puberty came in gracefully and technology wasn’t a pervasive distraction from the beauty and climb of the Blue and Green Mountains.     PRITI founder, Joanna Feldheim (left) &  actor and author,...
